Franco Pellizotti, de derde van vorig jaar, mag niet starten in de Ronde van Italië. De UCI heeft dit beslist nadat er afwijkingen waren ontdekt in de bloedwaarden van tijdens de Tour (2009). Hierdoor valt er een grote favoriet voor de eindzege weg. Liqiugas vervangt Pellizotti door Vincenzo Nibali, Ivan Basso zal waarschijnlijk de rol van kopman overnemen.

I’ve just noticed the pesotr poses the question, Did Armstrong steer Zberg and Missaglia into the motorbike? .I’d love a better definition video of this as it’s hard to see what’s going on. Personally I wouldn’t say Armstrong is incapable of a Schumacheresque manouver if the situation called for it, but don’t see it here myself. I agree his lean is impressive and God knows I’d be sliding on my hip and elbow straight through the bend and into the barrier if I tried it, but it’s no more that the kind of thing Cancellara does regularly imo (like last year as the yellow jersey when he had to chase back after stopping to pee)Speaking of Armstrong’s handling, what about his world champ solo break and celebrations in a saturated Oslo? That was impressive. He’s a fantastic bike handler no question.
